Thurlestone rock arch
An immensely attractive coastal village, Thurlstone stands on a headland between two glorious beaches. The Village is lent its name due to a "thyrled" stone, which can be seen offshore from the south beach. This stone is pierced and its mention in a charter of AD 846 is how the village acquired its moniker.
The village is a picturesque and eclectic hodge podge of thatched cottages adorned with flowers, dusty farm buildings and shops and inns that have stood in place for many years.
It is in Thurleston that one will find the parish Church of All Saints. This boats a splendid example of a Norman Font and the 15th century south porch and lady chapel are also charming features of this local religious centre.
